Ennio Moriconne 60 Years of Music

So on the 16th of February, Phil and I had the most amazing musical experience, we got tickets to see the amazing Maestro with the full 86-strong Czech National Symphony Orchestra at the O2 in London.

Ennio Morricone is an Italian composer from Rome, who has produced over 500 scores for cinema and television, theater and radio. His most world famous being the spaghetti western movies by Sergio Leone “Once Upon A Time in the West” 1968, “The Good The Bad and The ugly” 1866 and “For a few Dollars more” 1964. As well as very known music soundtrack for the movie The Mission 1986 by Roland Jofé. The list goes on with Italian as well as french cinema such as Cinema Paradiso, The Battle of Algiers, Maddalena…(S)

He has most recently composed the music for Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie The Hateful Height for which he is nominated for this year’s oscars and won a BAFTA. Morricone is also a classical music composer but is mostly known for his controversial and very experimental style of music composition. (S)

The concert was just breathtaking. It was very hard for me to hold my tears as he walked up on stage (he is 86 years old) and bowed down to the orchestra and the public. The music was emotional, moving and so transporting, especially when I recognised the movie it came from. We were even lucky enough to get four encores from the Maestro which was so generous and enabled the experience to last a little longer.

I don’t know if you have ever been to the O2 in London, but as we got in I got butterflies in my stomach. Not only am I not really used to going to concerts, but the O2 is superb and very grand. We were also lucky enough to get better seats then expected which was a great surprise, and were sitting on the right of the orchestra and the main stage.

If you ever have the chance to see him in his 2016 tour you really should jump on the opportunity. It is an experience that will stay with you for a very long time!!
